It
is possible to get genital herpes in your throat and mouth. The
HSV1 virus which causes Cold Sores can surprisingly also cause
genital herpes. This can be caused by oral-genital or genital-genital
contact with a person who has HSV1 infection. Genital HSV1 outbreaks
reoccur less often than genital HSV2 outbreaks. If
you develop genital herpes in your mouth we would recommend visiting
a doctor as the sores may spread into your throat causing extreme
discomfort and possible breathing difficulties. Once someone becomes
infected with the hsv virus unfortunately you will have it for
the rest of your life, but not necessary develop genital
herpes on their genitals or mouth. There're many strains of
the hsv virus and only some strains will make you develop herpes.
HSV1 (Cold Sores) and HSV2 (Genital Herpes) have episodes' or
'flare-ups' and will appear from time to time usually when your
immune system is weak. They will usually disappear on there own
after a month or two but can be unsightly and the majority of
